ATLANTIS PROJECTS panels can be attached in several different ways depending on the application and back up framing.
Below are links to instructions for our most commonly used attachment systems. To determine the best and most economical attachment system for your specific application, please contact us.

1. Adhesive Attachment

On many interior applications, the most economical way to attach Lightweight Panels is to simply adhere them directly to the drywall, steel stud framing, or existing backup.
Installation is very quick and simple, greatly reducing on-site labour costs.
Both the back-up board and the panels must be cleaned before the adhesive is applied.
Non-oily dirt on the back of the stone panel honeycomb skin can be removed with a cleaner such as a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Stone panels are normally clean except for dust and can be removed by wiping with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
The pattern for positioning of adhesive beads shall be such that beads are always located near the corners of each panel and spaced intermittently throughout the panel area.
Beads shall be located within 3” of the edges. The perimeter spacing shall not be more than 16" on center.
Within the field of the panel, beads shall be distributed over the entire area of each panel with the maximum distance both vertically and horizontally between beads being no greater than 16" on center. The positioning of the beads shall also achieve an approximate symmetrical pattern about the horizontal and vertical axis.
The bond contact area of adhesive should be a minimum of 1 square inch on the board and on the panel.

2. Interlocking Channel System

Interlocking Channel System is our most commonly used attachment system. It is extremely versatile, working well with a variety of back up systems on both exterior and interior applications.
This very simple attachment system offers extremely fast construction speed greatly reducing field labour.
Normally the interlock clips for Honeycomb Stone Panels were cut at 4" long each segment, and then each one interlock clip was fixed onto the backside of Honeycomb Stone Panel as per drawing with at least 4 rivets up to 6 rivets.
The gear strength of one rivet is about 110 pounds. One Honeycomb Stone One Honeycomb Stone Panel needs at least 2 interlock clips at the backside. That depends on the size of the panels, the bigger size Honeycomb Stone Panel is, the more interlock clips needed.
Small size Honeycomb Stone Panel only needs 2 interlock clips or more. Once all interlock clips were fixed onto the backside of Honeycomb Stone Panels as per drawings, then just hang up the stone panels onto the interlock rails on the wall.
Estimated one worker can install about 1000SF Honeycomb Stone Panels onto the wall in 8 hours per day on average. This installation is fast, but the cost of interlock clips and interlock rails is high.
Framing must be erected plumb and true. The maximum variation from a true plane should not exceed 1/8 inch in 10 feet. Defects must be corrected prior to proceeding with panel installation.
Framing members must be located according to shop drawings prepared or approved by the stone panel installing contractor. These drawings must account for panel joint locations in order to provide adequate attachment for each panel.
The maximum variation from shop drawing dimensions should not exceed 1/8 inch in 10 feet.
Coordinate with the shop drawing to a laser level to mark the exact panel location and the position of panel edges at the base of the wall. Assure that each panel edge will have framing support.
Use a laser or level to establish the most outward point of the framing. Create a mark to determine the installation “plane” and the amount of shimming required. Use a string line from the top of the elevation to the bottom of the elevation.
A plumb line or laser must be set at the location where installing will begin. Position the vertical edge of the interlocking channel system section as indicated by shop drawings, flush with the line.
Clamp the interlocking channel sections in place, then screw the channel to the framing through the groove in the section at each end and at 24 inches maximum.
If needed you may spray the system sections after installation with soapy water or apply silicone for lubrication to assist with panel installation. Install panels using shims as necessary to keep the spacing between the panels and channels equal.
Installation may progress vertically or horizontally depending on how the panels have been staged. Please take special attention when aligning panel joints as the panels are installed, shimming as necessary to maintain joint spacing.

3. Z-clip Channel System

Z-clip attachment system is an optional interior attachment system. Each panel is shipped with factory attached zee sections. Mating sections are then screwed to the wall and the panels drop into place.
This very simple attachment system offers extremely fast construction speed greatly reducing field labour.
Framing must be erected plumb and true. The maximum variation from a true plane should not exceed 1/8 inch in 10 feet. Defects must be corrected prior to proceeding with panel installation

  • Use the shop drawings, tape, and laser level to mark the exact positions of panels on the wall.
  • Check to ensure that each panel edge will have framing support. Using a laser, find the most outward point of the framing. This will be the installing "plane," as all other panels will need to be shimmed out to that level.
  • Use string lines or a rotating laser, set at least two inches from the most outward point of the framing as a reference line to establish the plane for the entire StonePly stone panel faces.
  • Starting with the bottom row, position the Z-clip sections on the wall as indicated by the shop drawings.
  • Using the C-clamps, clamp the Z-clip section into place on the steel framing and screw the Z-clip sections onto the steel framing. Do not exceed a maximum of 24" on center between Z-clips.

4. Anchor Al-Plate System

Anchor Al-Plate System

Anchor Al-Plate System installation use Aluminum Plates instead of Interlock Clips on the backside. Basically the Aluminum Plates were pre-cut at size 1" x 1" and pre-drill 2 holes in each Aluminum Plate.
Then use 2 rivets to fix the Aluminum Plate onto the backside of the Honeycomb Stone Panel.
One Honeycomb Stone Panel needs at least 4 Aluminum Plates at 4 corners, then use screws to fasten the Honeycomb Stone Panels onto the steel studs on the wall of the building.
The bigger size Honeycomb Stone Panel is, the more Aluminum Plates needed. Estimated one worker can install about 500SF Honeycomb Stone Panels onto wall in 8 hours per day on average.
The cost of Aluminum Plate is cheap, but the installation of this one system is slow.
