CORIAN

Corian® Solid Surface is an advanced composite product used as an architectural and design material in a variety of residential and commercial applications. It’s manufactured in USA.

Corian® Solid Surface offers design versatility, functionality
and durability. Supplied in sheets and shapes, it can be fabricated with conventional woodworking tools into virtually any design. It is the original Solid Surface material made only by DuPont. It is widely accepted as a material for countertops, vanity tops, tub/shower walls, kitchen sinks, vanity basins and laboratory bench tops in numerous
markets including lodging, healthcare, banks, boutiques, restaurants.

Corian® Solid Surface sheet is a solid, nonporous, homogeneous surfacing
material, composed of ≈1/3 acrylic resin (also known as polymethyl
methacrylate or PMMA), and ≈2/3 natural minerals. These minerals are
composed of aluminum trihydrate (ATH) derived from bauxite, an ore
from which aluminum is extracted. Corian® Solid Surface sinks and
lavatories utilize a acrylic-modified polyester resin.

Available in various standard thicknesses, easily cut to size by professional
fabricators.
All colors in the standard color palette are available in 12 mm (1/2″) sheets

KRION is a new generation solid surface developed by Krion Porcelanosa Grupo.

It is a material that is warm to the touch and similar to natural stone. It is made of two-thirds natural minerals (ATH – Alumina Trihydrate) and a low percentage of high-resistance resins. This composition gives Krion a number of exclusive features: it does not have any pores, it is anti-bacterial without any type of additive, it is hard-wearing, highly resistant and easy to repair, only requires minimum maintenance and is easy to clean.

It is cut in a similar way to wood, allowing us to cut the sheets, connect them and thermoform them to create curved sections, and can even be injected during the production process, making it possible to create different designs and projects that are impossible to achieve with other materials.

Seamless sections can be created, preventing liquids from being absorbed and making cleaning and maintenance easier.

It is an ecological material, as it is 100% recyclable. All products made of Krion can be reprocessed and reused in the production cycle.

There are no limits for Hi-Macs made by LG-Hausys.

Introduction about Solid Surfaces

Solid surfaces, versatile materials composed of alumina trihydrate (ATH), acrylic, epoxy or polyester resins, and pigments, have become integral to modern design and construction. This article delves into the world of solid surfaces, providing an in-depth exploration of their composition, properties, applications, and innovations.
Solid Surfaces

I. The Genesis of Solid Surfaces

• In 1967, DuPont introduced Corian, marking the inception of solid surfaces in the market. Corian's arrival revolutionized design possibilities by offering a seamless, visually appealing material.

• Since DuPont's patent expired, numerous manufacturers have entered the market with their own branded products, further expanding the availability and applications of solid surfaces.

II. The Composition and Properties of Solid Surfaces

• Solid surfaces are a delicate composition of acrylic, minerals, and pigments, creating a non-porous, thermoformable, and visually seamless material.

• These surfaces meet stringent standards for quality, encompassing performance, fabrication, functionality, and hygiene. Their composition, primarily natural minerals (ATH) and high-resistance resins, offers unique advantages.

III. Applications of Solid Surfaces

• Beyond countertops, solid surfaces have diverse applications in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Their versatile nature makes them suitable for various creative design concepts.

• Known by brand names like Corian, KRION, HI-MACS, and others, these surfaces offer a wide selection of colors and patterns. They have gained popularity for their durability, nonporous nature, and hygienic properties. They could be used in several industry sectors:

IV. Manufacturing and Fabrication

• The manufacturing process involves mixing resins, bauxite filler, and pigments, followed by curing and shaping. This results in sheets that can be cut and shaped as needed.

• Fabricators utilize an array of tools, including routers, drills, and CNC machines, for shaping and assembly. Installation involves joining sheets with adhesive, creating seamless, impermeable surfaces.

V. Availability and Market Trends

• Solid surfaces are available in hundreds of colours and textures, catering to diverse markets globally. Their design flexibility and durability have contributed to their widespread use.

• They are gaining popularity in commercial and industrial settings due to their resistance to wear and tear, renewability, and formability. The ability to custom-colour the material for large projects is another appealing feature.

VI. Features and Advantages

• Solid surfaces exhibit remarkable features such as resistance to impact, chemicals, UV radiation, and water. This makes them suitable for demanding environments.

• Their compact, non-porous nature ensures hygienic and aesthetically pleasing surfaces that are easy to maintain. Additionally, they can be handled like wood and come in various finishes and forms.

VII. Innovative Uses

• Solid surfaces are not limited to countertops; they find applications in shower walls, tub surrounds, and wall cladding. Their grout-free nature makes them easy to clean.

• Dye sublimation allows for personalized designs to be embedded in the material, enhancing aesthetics. Thermoforming enables the creation of intricate three-dimensional shapes, expanding design possibilities.

VIII. Cabinetry and Furniture

• Cabinets made from solid surface materials offer unmatched design flexibility and durability. Thermoforming and dye sublimation can be used to create unique cabinet designs.

• Maintenance is hassle-free, and the material is suitable for various environments, including humid or outdoor spaces, thanks to its non-porous, waterproof properties.

IX. Cordless Power Integration

• In a promising development, solid surfaces are being explored for wireless charging integration, offering a clutter-free charging solution.

• Collaborations with organizations like the Power Matters Alliance aim to embed charging capabilities within solid surfaces, eliminating the need for visible charging accessories.
